A Glorious Summer

I drew this poster during my BA design studies in 1987, for an Iberian competition on the Year of the Environment.

Somehow I persuaded the jury that this was a winner – 200,000 pesetas (a lot of money back then) and a free trip to Madrid with all my classmates. We spent whatever we could in advance on cañas, dinners and records on a couple of scorching August nights.

Then I went to Brussels for a month, interviewed Tuxedomoon’s Steven Brown for BLITZ newspaper (providing mainstream exposure for the lads back home), and spent the rest of the money on tons of obscure vinyl.

A glorious Summer, 1987.
